GAYS IN AFRICA

Take Africa slow - AFRICA IS NOT READY FOR HOMOSEXUAL PUBLICITY

Homosexuality is not welcomed in Africa, it’s a taboo and that’s just how it is as of this, the 21st Century. We know you are among us; you are our brothers, our sisters, our uncles, aunties, our friends, colleagues, But it’s going to take a miracle for Africa to acknowledge gays. I really have no idea why people are fighting this whole thing. We are still trying to let go of some cultures and come to terms with the whole PDA (public display of affection) thing, Yes we are that behind; So bringing the whole issue of homosexuality on-board is going mind nibbling. It’s like feeding toothless baby cone.

What defines Africa is our morals, our cultures and the family unit to African is pretty clear, father mother and children (and probably a dog that sleeps out in the cold). We don’t have a lot of money so we are trying to hold on to the little bit of culture and morals still in us.

Forgive us for being behind time, for not being ready to embrace gays and lesbians but some of us need more time. No offence but I personally can’t imagine what it would feel like seeing a gay couple holding handing, flirting, the whole PDA on the street, changing saliva and all. How uncomfortable would that be! May be am just old fashioned like most eastern Africans or maybe I have read my bible well and know better.

I just really don’t get the whole gays and lesbian world. What goes in where, who's on top & who's bottom and who is what in the relationship it’s confusing world and am not sure some of us have the stomach for it live alone understand it . I think we need more information than ‘IT’S JUST HOW I AM’, so we can understand this whole gay world new to us. Because I still can’t grasp how I will want to kiss and sleep with ‘my same gender’ BFF.

The western world has embraced the homosexuals well. It’s actually fashionable to have a gay best friend, like the now famous quote, “everyone needs a gay best friend’. It’s fashionable to test the waters on all corners of the ocean. Shockingly there are those in America, Britain and other ‘developed’ countries who still haven’t embraced the idea. So don’t judge African countries like Uganda and Kenya. I know the new rule is extreme to say the list and am still confused and at one side am feeling sorry for them and the other side of me is just confused.

So bottom line, take us slow gay world, give us a minute to adjust, take everything in, probably read through the holy book again and maybe just maybe a century to come we might rub off to the idea of having a ‘gay best friend or even a gay neighbour.

I Don’t mean to judge but just saying what’s on most of our minds.

Just take Africa slow, coz we are not there yet!
